What you'll see

The part that sticks is the yard: heavy military hardware displayed in the open — tanks, combat aircraft, guns — which you can walk right up to and children can see close-up. Indoors, the exhibition covers artillery and the history of military operations in the Soviet period, with equipment, uniforms and documents.

It is a niche museum, but one of the most visual in Chișinău and, for families, more effective than a conventional display hall. Allow an hour for the yard and another for the interior. The historical context of the period is covered in the history section.

Getting there

The address is 47 Tighina Street, in the Centru district, south of Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard. From Piața Marii Adunări Naționale it is about a twenty-minute walk, heading down towards the railway station, or a few minutes by taxi. There is no accessible parking space for disabled visitors. When to go

Hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00, with Monday the closing day. Opening at 09:00 is earlier than the national museums, which start at 10:00 — an advantage if you want to begin the day here. Since a significant part of the display is outdoors, the weather matters: spring and autumn are the most comfortable, and in winter the yard is walked through quickly.

What to combine it with

The Centre for Military Culture and History operates at the same address, on weekday hours, so the two can only be seen together from Tuesday to Friday. Beyond that, the Eternitate Memorial Complex is a few minutes away and continues the theme, while walking back up towards the boulevard brings you to the national museums.
