Purcari
Purcari is the oldest and one of the most prestigious wineries in Moldova, with a tradition dating from 1827. Purcari wines have been valued through history by figures such as Queen Victoria of Great Britain — Negru de Purcari was served at the British royal court.
Set in south-eastern Moldova, near the Dniester and under the mild influence of the Black Sea, the Purcari vineyard benefits from a distinctive microclimate. This particular terroir allows exceptional red wines to be made.
Today Purcari is a modern wine estate, with a winery, a restaurant, tasting rooms and facilities for events. Its wines win medals consistently at international competitions such as Decanter, the International Wine & Spirit Competition and Mundus Vini.

It is Moldova's best-known winery and, for some years now, a full tourist complex. Besides the accommodation, there is a restaurant, guided tours of the winery and event spaces. Parking is free, and the entrance and parking spaces are adapted for wheelchair access. If you are following the wine route in the south, it is the natural starting point — a tasting in the evening, the road to the Dniester the next day.

Cafenea Ellis is one of the few civilised stops in Ștefan Vodă, the small town in the south-east that gives its name to the district with the Purcari vineyards. The hours are those of a small-town café: from eight in the morning to nine at night during the week, opening at ten on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast is served, and the terrace works in season. It takes children and groups, at mid-range prices. It has no wheelchair adaptations, and pets are not admitted.
