Judoka awarded the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, contributing to Moldova's record tally at that edition of the Games.

Adil Osmanov (b. 2000, Moscow) is a judoka who represents the Republic of Moldova in the up to 73 kg weight category. He was born into a family with mixed roots: his father is Azerbaijani, originally from the Khachmaz region, and his mother is Moldovan, from the town of Drochia. He spent his childhood in Moscow, where he also discovered judo, his first competitions taking place in the Russian Federation.

In 2017, Adil Osmanov took the decision to compete under the colours of the Republic of Moldova. He lived for almost two years in a dormitory of the Olimpia club in Chișinău, while his parents still remained in Moscow. Initially coached by the Buiuc brothers, he later continued his training under the guidance of Valeriu Duminică, joining the country's national judo squads.

Olympic achievement

The most important achievement of his career came at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he won the bronze medal in the 73 kg category. This was one of the medals that confirmed the rise of Moldovan judo internationally, alongside the results of his colleague Denis Vieru. Osmanov also carried the flag of the Republic of Moldova at the World University Games held in Germany, where he obtained the gold medal.

At present, the athlete has settled permanently in the Republic of Moldova, together with his mother. Through his path, Adil Osmanov has become one of the symbols of the new generation of judokas bringing Moldova prestigious results at the highest world and Olympic competitions.

An athlete of the new generation

The bronze medal at Paris 2024 was part of the best Olympic performance of the Republic of Moldova since independence, alongside the results of Denis Vieru, Anastasia Nichita and Serghei Tarnovschi. The 73 kg category is one of the most contested in world judo, which makes his achievement all the more valuable. Osmanov trains within the national structures in Chișinău and is seen as a model of successful integration and of devotion to the country he chose to represent, contributing to the international affirmation of Moldovan judo.
