Casa-Muzeu „Aleksandr Pușkin”
The Casa-Muzeu „Aleksandr Pușkin" occupies a low house with a porch at 19 Strada Anton Pann, in a pocket of the old town a few streets north of Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare. The Russian poet lived here during his exile in Chișinău, and the building preserves the domestic scale of the early nineteenth century.

This is one of the smallest house-museums in Chișinău, and that is precisely why it works. The visit takes in a few low-ceilinged rooms furnished in period style, in a building that has kept the scale of the city as it was before the wide boulevards. The house is connected with Aleksandr Pushkin's stay in Chișinău during the years of his southern exile, and the display follows that period of his life.
It is worth an hour, no more, and worth it above all for the contrast with the rest of the city: from the modern centre you step straight into a courtyard with a porch and wooden joinery. It is the clearest surviving example of a modest urban dwelling from the first half of the nineteenth century that you can freely visit. Getting there
The address is 19 Strada Anton Pann, in the northern part of the centre, ten to fifteen minutes' walk from the Triumphal Arch. The surrounding streets are narrow and sloping, and parking is difficult, with no accessible bay. The simplest approach is on foot or by taxi. Being a historic house, the entrance is not wheelchair-accessible.
When to go
Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 16:00; the museum is closed on Mondays. Closing at 16:00 is early for a city sight, so don't leave it to the end of the day. The best window is the morning, between 10:00 and 12:00, when there are no groups in the house and the small rooms can be worked through without waiting. In the warm season, the front courtyard is part of the visit.
What to combine it with
It goes well with a walk through the old quarter around Strada Anton Pann and Strada Sfatul Țării, then a descent towards the boulevard and back into the city's usual rhythm. The same half-day has room for the Catedrala Romano-Catolică „Providența Divină" and the Centrul de Cultură și Artă „Ginta Latină", both a few minutes away.
