Complexul Memorial „Eternitate”

The Complexul Memorial „Eternitate" occupies a raised platform at 5 Strada Pantelimon Halippa, in the south of the centre, and is Chișinău's largest commemorative ensemble, dedicated to those who died in the Second World War. The pyramid of five stone elements and the flame at its centre are visible from a distance.

What you'll see

The ensemble is built as a sequence of steps and platforms climbing towards the central monument — a structure of five stone elements leaning towards one another, with the memorial flame at its base. Around it, paths run between commemorative plaques and war graves, and the perimeter is planted, so the visit works as a walk rather than just a brief stop.

This is where the memory of the Second World War is most visibly marked in the city, and it remains active as a place of official commemoration. Allow thirty to forty minutes. The full historical context of the period is in the history section.

Getting there

The address is 5 Strada Pantelimon Halippa, in the southern part of the centre, roughly twenty minutes' walk from Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare or a few minutes by car. The ground rises, but the main entrance is listed as wheelchair-accessible, and the paths are wide and paved.

When to go

The complex is open every day, 07:00 to 19:00. Early morning is the best window: the platform is empty, and the low light brings out the stone volumes. On 9 May and other days of commemoration the ensemble becomes the focus of official ceremonies and is crowded — worth seeing for the atmosphere, but not if you want quiet. In winter the steps can be slippery.

What to combine it with

Its position south of the centre puts it on the same route as Strada Tighina, home to the Muzeul de Istorie Militară and the Centrul de Cultură și Istorie Militară — together they make the most coherent half-day devoted to the twentieth century in Chișinău. From there you climb back towards the boulevard and into the national museum quarter.

For anyone who wants the context explained on the ground, the options are under tours and excursions. The rest of the capital's sights are listed in the Chișinău guide, and the city's other memorials appear in the heritage section.

Buffalo Steak House

4.6(878)

At Vasile Alecsandri 20, Buffalo Steak House is a grilled-meat address in Chișinău's expensive bracket, open daily 11:00–23:00. It covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with wine and beer, cocktails, coffee and desserts. The terrace runs in season, and free parking on site, plus a place on the street, solves the main problem of the central area. There is no live music — the atmosphere stays that of a restaurant, not an evening venue. It takes children, works for groups and accepts bookings. Delivery and takeaway available. Worth remembering for a dinner where the meat is the main reason for going out.
