What you'll see

The monument is classified as a historic landmark and marks the figure of Sergei Lazo, a character of the revolutionary period, widely commemorated during the Soviet decades. For a present-day visitor, the value lies less in the subject than in what its siting reveals: how official memory was built in a residential neighbourhood, at a distance from the representative centre.

The visit takes ten minutes. It is a stop for anyone crossing the south of the city who wants to understand Chișinău's Soviet layer too, not just the historic centre and the museums. The twentieth-century context is set out in the history section.

Getting there

The address is 53 Strada Sarmizegetusa, in the Botanica district, in the south of the capital. From Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard it takes about fifteen minutes by car, or by the trolleybus running down to Botanica. It is not a distance to walk from the centre. The route is direct and well served by public transport.

When to go

Access is permanent, round the clock, with no schedule and no ticket. Visit during daylight, when the details are visible and the neighbourhood is busy. Morning and early afternoon are the most suitable windows. It does not merit a separate trip from the centre — it only makes sense as part of a route through the south of the city.

What to combine it with

The Sarmizegetusa public garden is a few steps away and offers a walk immediately after the stop. Further on, in the same southern half, are the Zoo, the Botanical Garden and the Village Museum — together they make up a full day, without returning to the centre.
